The best hardwood teak comes from Indonesia. Teak trees grow upto a height of 150 feet and are considered to be the major source of income for many villages along the tropical areas. The very first plantations on the island of Java were planted long ago by the Dutch, who were the colonial power at the time, in the mid 1800s making them some of the oldest teak farms in the world. These plantations are now owned by the Indonesian government agency Perum Perhutani, which is responsible for the control of these teak farms allowing the felling of a limited number of trees each year and the reforestation of these farms

Researchers found that plantations teak wood have equivalent, if not identical properties to teak grown in old-growth forests, it is certainly every bit as beautiful. And just like the old-growth, plantation teak possesses the same oily resins that resist moisture, termites, warping, and fungi. When cultivated properly, plantation teak is the same unique and stunning wood material preferred by shipbuilders and furniture makers for centuries. The difference is that it doesn't contribute to the destruction of natural forests.

The yellowish brown teak timber with good grains and texture is used in the manufacture of Indoor Furniture, Outdoor Furniture, Indoor Flooring and other articles where weather resistance is desired.Teak is easily worked and has natural oils that make it suitable for use in exposed locations and termite and pest proof, where it is durable even when not treated. It is very resistant to termite attacks.

Water spots or other discoloration may occur early in the weathering process. After the wood has been exposed to moisture the surface grain may raise slightly. The slight separation of the grain has no effect on the strength and longevity of the furniture. Teak will return to its original smooth feel after the initial weathering process. Cleaning with a soft bristle brush and soapy water will help to return the surface to a smooth finish.

Once the furniture has taken on a weathered surface, it is easily maintained by an annual cleaning with a soft bristled brush and soapy water to remove accumulated dirt.
